NUFFIELD FARMING SCHOLARSHIPS

'An opportunity for suitable applicants from the UK meat and Livestock industry, aged between 25 and 45 to explore a topic of their choice through study and travel'

Rob Mercer was selected as the 2016 Nuffield Scholar. Rob's topic of study will be 'How to develop and add value to a pig business whilst contributing to society'


Background.  The WCB has become a sponsor of the Nuffield Farming Scholarships and supports every alternate year a suitable candidate who is currently active in the meat and livestock industries. The next opportunity for a potential Nuffield scholar to be sponsored by WCB will be 2017.

What are the Scholarships for?  They are designed to enable candidates to study a topic entirely of their own choice carrying out an extensive tour anywhere in the world, visiting one or more countries to further their knowledge and understanding. 

Eligibility.  Candidates are eligible for UK NFS if they are:

  • A UK resident aged between 25 and 45 years at the application date
  • Working in farming, rural-based industry or the wider food industry as an owner, manager or employee. In the case of the WCB sponsored scholar, we will be particularly looking for those who are working in the UK meat or livestock sectors
  • Engaged for at least 2 years in the industry and intend to remain involved in the sector

Further Information About the Course.   The project must be completed within 18 months of the award, with the scholar expected to travel for at least 8 weeks in total. Reasonable travel and subsistence costs are provided to fund their study as well as practical assistance with travel and study plans.  On completion of the study tour, scholars are expected to compile a report within 3 months of completion of the study, which will be published by the Trust.   For more information, contact Bob Bansback on bob@bansback.co.uk or on 07768 357 204
