The purpose of this award which is made in memory of the late Gary Baker is to support an undergraduate student at Harper Adams University, who has taken their industrial placement year in the UK’s red meat sector (beef, pork, lamb/mutton production and/or processing and/or manufacture).
Applicants will be studying a relevant degree course subject area in Harper Adams University, for example, agriculture, animal science, agri-food marketing, food technology. In applying for the award they need to convince the Selection Panel of their intention to have a career in the meat processing industry. Applicants will be required to provide in not more than 1,000 words a report of their industrial placement, communicating understanding of the red meat sector, and short statement of their future career plans. This submission will be judged by the Selection Panel and will aid in their consideration of candidates.
The Selection Panel is chaired by Professor Ralph Early, Head of Food at Harper Adams. The value of the Scholarship is £1,000.
The 2015 winner is Alice Green who was presented the trophy and cheque for £1000 at the IOM/WCB Annual Prizegiving at Tallow Chandlers Hall on 23 February 2016.
