The Meat Training Council (MTC) is the body which promotes the meat industry by developing training and qualifications within the whole meat sector, and helps companies and individuals to attain the skills necessary in a modern environment. From basic knife skills through understanding of the products and processes involved to management within the industry.

The Council owns the awarding body, Food and Drinks Qualification (FDQ), which operates throughout the food industry. All surpluses are used to fund charitable activities. The Council receives no funding from government, or grants from industry.

MTC is a registered charity and has a designated fund which is available for individuals, training establishments or companies who need assistance with training or training facilities.

The latest initiative, designed to highlight those people with the necessary skills and as a goal for people moving through the sector, is the establishment of the "MTC Accredited Master Butcher".
