Nuffield Farming Scholarships

The Worshipful Company of Butchers sponsors Nuffield Scholars because the Scheme has an excellent record of developing young people for leadership and greater responsibility in their respective companies / organisations or farming situations.

Suitable applicants from the meat and livestock industry of between 25 and 45 years of age are invited to explore a topic of their choice through study and travel.

An opportunity for suitable applicants from the UK meat and Livestock industry, aged between 25 and 45 to explore a topic of their choice through study and travel

Prospective candidates need to be:

  • UK residents.
  • Working in farming, rural-based industry or the wider food industry as an owner, manager or employee.
  • Engaged for at least two years in the meat and livestock industry and intending to remain involved in the sector.
  • The project must be completed within 18 months of the award, with the scholar expected to travel for at least eight weeks in total. Reasonable travel and subsistence costs are provided to fund the study as well as practical assistance with study and travel plans. On completion of their travels, scholars are expected to compile a report for submission to the Nuffield Trust.

The closing dates for applications is 31st July each year.

Further Information About the Course

The project must be completed within 18 months of the award, with the scholar expected to travel for at least 8 weeks in total. Reasonable travel and subsistence costs are provided to fund their study as well as practical assistance with travel and study plans. On completion of the study tour, scholars are expected to compile a report within 3 months of completion of the study, which will be published by the Trust.
