Join us at Butchers' Hall on Friday 4th of July for our annual Ladies' Court Lunch when the guest speaker will be Lady Mayoress, Florence King.

Guest Speaker 

Florence King is married to Alderman Alastair King DL who took office as Lord Mayor of the City of London on 9 November 2024.

Florence was born in UCLH and grew up in North London, read for a BSc Anthropology at University College London and read for an MSc in Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Before university, Florence completed her PADI rescue diving course so she could volunteer as an assistant to marine biologists in Utila, Honduras to help deliver a report to secure protection from the Honduran government for Caribbean reefs and marine wildlife including dolphins, mangrove swamps, sea grasses and whale sharks. Her time as a volunteer saw her diving four times a day and learning to identify and size 18 varieties of parrot fish.

After university, her first job was in finance, working in equities on Cheapside having worked summer internships with Citigroup and a subsidiary of ICap. She has also written as a journalist, reporting for the Evening Standard and writing for British GQ. She also gained her racing licence for cars at Goodwood and raced Silverstone (National Circuit).

Using her MSc in Epidemiology, Florence began a PhD at the University of Edinburgh studying the measurement of non-completion of treatment for tuberculosis and its causes. Her research took her to Lithuania and Latvia.

Florence is an active reservist in the British Army, currently serving in Horse Guards with HQ London District delivering ceremonial events across Greater London and will support retention and recruitment of reservists in London to maintain a strategically influential reserve force in the UK during Alastair’s time in office.

Florence is an ambassador for the British Liver Trust and will be running the London Marathon for them in 2025.

The price of the lunch is £105 per person, inc VAT which includes drinks reception, a three-course lunch with wine, and a Stirrup Cup.
