The Worshipful Company of Butchers and City Livery Events

If you have not heard of, or taken part, in this Company's proud annual tradition before, now is the time to experience something special for our Livery.

Traced back in City history records to 1343, a parcel of land was given to the Butchers of London to provide them with a place to clean and dispose of offal or any ‘beast entrails’. In payment for the land, the Butchers agreed to pay The Lady Mayor with a Boar’s Head each winter and, despite the fact the land and the practice are no more, we still honour the agreement and respectfully pay our dues when invited to.

This special afternoon will begin with a drinks reception at 12pm before a tasty three-course premium British sausage and mash meal with wine and drinks included, is served in our Great Hall at 12:30pm.

The Epping Forest Pipe Band will play a little ensemble during the meal before The Master leads the forming of a procession outside the Hall at approximately 2:30pm.

Led by the Beadle and pipes and drums, we will make our way through the streets of London to Mansion House.

A warm welcome from the Lady Mayor awaits and it's at the Mansion House reception that you will be able to witness the paying of the rent as the Boar's Head is presented to the Lady Mayor by The Master.

Timings: 12pm for 12:30pm lunch (Butchers' Hall)

Procession starts 2:30pm to arrive in Mansion House by 3pm

Leave Mansion House at 3:45pm
