The Worshipful Company of Butchers and City Livery Events

Liverymen and their guests are invited to join us for our monthly Court & Livery lunch, when our guest speaker will be Sir James Wates CBE, Board Director, Wates Group and Vice President, Dorking Rugby Club and Headley Cricket Club.

Sir James Wates CBE is a Board Director of the Wates Group, where he previously served as Chairman from 2013 to 2023.

He is Chairman of Vestey Holdings Ltd and Chairman of Tewke, sits on the Board of The King’s Trust and he is currently The Master of The Worshipful Company of Innholders.

James also holds honorary sporting roles as Vice President of both Dorking Rugby Club and Headley Cricket Club.

In June 2025, he was appointed Chair of the Board of the Rugby Football Union.

Alongside his business and charitable work, he owns a cattle and sheep farm in Surrey, where he experiments with farming methods and biodiversity initiatives. His personal interests include golf and sailing.

He is also actively involved in philanthropy, supporting a range of charities and educational initiatives, with a focus on improving workplace standards and promoting fair employment practices.

Price: £120 per person, inc VAT

Dress code: Dark Lounge Suit (jacket & tie) / Business Attire
