Professor David Hughes

Positive directions for the British meat industry in the next 5 – 10 years.

Professor David Hughes will look at what the future holds for industry and whether the tide is turning on the negative narrative around meat and what the sector can do to accelerate that with positive stories.  

Presented by Professor David Hughes, WCB’s City Meat Lecture 2023 will take place on Thursday 23rd November at Butchers' Hall.

The Panelists

Liveryman Katharine Haenelt, UK Managing Director of the OSI Group

Katharine Haenelt has in-depth knowledge and a wealth of hands-on experience of the issues that the meat industry faces, having worked as Fresh Trading Director with Marks & Spencer and Sales and Marketing Director at ABP UK.

Currently she oversees all the OSI UK facilities and her role also means she is responsible for creating and executing comprehensive business plans and strategies to continue OSI's growth trajectory and customer diversification in its International Division.

Harriet Wilson won the first Meat Business Women 'One to Watch Award' in 2018 and was part of the UK&I Committee for three years. She joined Meat Business Women as Partnerships Director in August 2023.

Her career so far has involved Head of Agriculture & senior CSR roles for McDonald's and retailers Aldi and Co-op Food. She graduated from Harper Adams University in 2014 and during her studies was a columnist for the Farmers' Weekly. Harriet has a passion for agriculture and previously sat on the Red Tractor Board for Beef and Lamb standards.

The Event 

Doors will open at 6pm and the lecture will start promptly at 6.30pm. It will be followed by a Q&A session and discussion with our selected panellists. 

The formalities will conclude at about 7.50pm and be followed by a buffet supper, providing a fantastic opportunity to meet up and network with Liverymen and others involved in the meat industry. The event will finish at approximately 9.00pm. 

Following the lecture our panelists will discuss the issues raised as part of our Q&A panel, facilitated by our lecture's Chairman, Liveryman Stuart Roberts.

The City Meat Lecture 2023 is open to everyone in the Meat Industry, including Liverymen and non-Liverymen.  

So, bring your friends and colleagues to this important event that will be both thought-provoking and inspiring.  

The cost of attendance is £85 per person (vat inclusive)
