The Worshipful Company of Butchers and City Livery Events

Dinner in celebration of Eid-al-Adha

Celebrate the joyous festival of Eid-al-Adha on the evening of 4th July with Muslim colleagues and stakeholders of the Meat Industry. Supported by AHDB and the NFU, we will be joined by industry representatives and Liverymen who wish to be part of the celebration with friends old and new.

Zara Mohammed - our guest speaker

For the first time ever, we will enjoy an amazing celebratory meal in celebration of Eid-al-Adha at Butchers' Hall.

Zara Mohammed - Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain, will join us as our guest speaker to educate us about the significance of Eid-al-Adha and how it is celebrated in the UK and around the world.

Eid-al-Adha, also known as 'Big Eid', is the larger of the two main festivals of the Muslim calendar. Its customs focus on giving and sharing, both within the family, local community and to global causes; remembering the willingness of Abraham to give up his son at God's command.

A central part of Eid celebrations is the thanksgiving festival of Qurbani which involves sheep, goats and cattle. The Qurbani meat is typically shared with friends, neighbours and charities. Families also host celebratory meals where sheepmeat and poultry feature.

As such, Eid is a key seasonal market for the meat industry and farmers alike, whilst year-round Muslim families consume much more meat per household than the general population.

Many Liverymen and meat businesses supply Muslim customers and consumers, in longstanding relationships and we wish to embrace and explore new opportunities in a global marketplace.

Come join in our shared celebration of Eid and the central role of meat, where you can build relationships and better understand Muslim customs.
