The Worshipful Company of Butchers and City Livery Events

A virtual tour of Medieval London

Monks, Murder Meat & Mayhem! Join us at 7pm on 13th May for a fascinating ‘virtual’ tour of the medieval City of London.

Expertly led by our Blue Badge Visitor Guide, Simon Whitehouse, we will be led on a journey through London's squalid streets to discover tales that may surprise and certainly fascinate.

Smithfield Market in Medieval times
Smithfield Market in Medieval times.

Starting with William the Conqueror, we will witness the building of the Tower & marvel at ‘old’ St Paul’s Cathedral….

Then on to Smithfield where we chart the story of medieval markets (and of course the butchers), learn of the legendary founding of St Bart’s, and recoil in horror at butchery of another kind with the brutal execution of William Wallace.

We brush with the ‘Black Death’ and find out ‘what lies beneath’ tranquil Charterhouse Square.

Not to mention revolting peasants, a martyred archbishop and the most unusual job at the medieval court.

This tour will take you on a voyage of discovery and promises to give you an insight to a fascinating history of places in the City that we are all so familiar with - but all have their own (secret) story to tell.

Book now and join us as we step back virtually into times gone by.

It costs just £10 plus VAT per Zoom call. When booking, please enter the number of people that will be joining the tour when you dial in.
