A Christmas Message from The Master 2025

Published on: 24 December 2025

I’m thrilled to be writing, in the first instance to wish you, your families and friends all the best for a wonderful Christmas and hope the New Year is all you wish it to be! I’m also very pleased to report that the gradual recovery at The Worshipful Company of Butchers continues. We’re confident that the approach and structure of the organisation, developed initially by the Recovery Team and maintained by the current Court will continue to deliver.

It’s inevitable, of course, that new and different challenges will appear along the way, but, provided we maintain our focus with no relaxation of effort, we can continue to strengthen and, in the longer term, underpin our financial position.

I hope it goes without saying that we’ve all been devastated by the theft of the Master’s Chain from Butchers’ Hall and sincerely hope the ongoing police investigation will be successful.

The Fellowship of our Livery continues second to none. Monthly Court Lunches are the envy of other Livery Companies with visiting Masters and indeed Guest Speakers marvelling at the atmosphere and camaraderie generated by Liverymen and their meat industry guests in the unique surroundings of Butchers’ Hall.

Fellowship and Finance work hand in glove at the Master’s Fundraising Ball being held this year at the iconic Guildhall on 17th April (book here) The contribution from this unique event plays a very important part in underpinning the Livery’s finances while the camaraderie of the meat industry guarantees a great evening. All profit from the evening goes to the Livery to strengthen the status of Butchers’ Hall. If you haven’t yet done so I urge you please to support us by buying tickets or providing sponsorship and/or raffle prizes.

I’m excited to report that the recruitment of new Liverymen continues well and in line with target. The many, different and varied talents and skills of new Liverymen bring new and valuable experience and insight to our bank of knowledge.

Carla, as Acting Clerk, has worked tirelessly in upgrading the team at Butchers’ Hall with our new incumbents as Facilities Manager and in the Accounts Office working well in maintaining and indeed improving the facilities and service at Butchers’ Hall.

Christmas and the New Year are always a time for reflection and I’d ask that we remember colleagues who passed away during the year and wish their families a peaceful time.

Thank you for supporting me as Master. It’s an honour and a privilege to represent The Worshipful Company of Butchers, one I never underestimate.

I sincerely hope you, your families and friends have a wonderful Christmas filled with everything you wish yourselves.

I look forward to seeing you at Butchers’ Hall in 2026.
