The sun shone, the trumpets sounded, the horses trotted, the soldiers marched and the sausages sizzled!
What a day to celebrate the First Lady Mayor of London, Dame Susan Langley’s Lady Mayor’s Show. The Worshipful Company of Butchers paraded at the show in force.
Some 50 Liverymen and partners took pride in supporting the Lady Mayor on Saturday, 8 November, entertaining the massive crowd and demonstrating the role of our Livery Company to the millions of viewers at home enjoying the BBC TV coverage of this magnificent, unique occasion.
Liveryman Fran Wyatt of Porky Whites did WCB proud during the TV interview with presenter Tina Deheley. Watch interview here
In explaining the role of our Butchers’ Company from 975AD to modern times, and sharing our background and expertise within the industry, Fran treated the TV personality, live on air, to a specially prepared “Porky Whites Lady Mayor’s sausage”.
The sausage, crafted with British Pork and other ingredients was created to reflect the special personality and background of the Lady Mayor and was thoroughly enjoyed live on air. (We subsequently heard that the rest of the production team enjoyed the rest of the sausages too!).
Thousands of onlookers around the streets of the City pointed, smiled, marvelled and enjoyed the “float” comprising a giant inflatable rib of beef managed by a team of eight Liverymen, our Boars Head, the restored and liveried Woods Family Butcher’s van while managing to avoid Past Master Chris Wood riding his authentic Butcher’s bicycle!
A wonderful spectacle, a wonderful day and a wonderful achievement……well done the Butchers!
