Liverymen connect again through virtual Fellowship Friday event

Published on: 9 June 2020

50 Liverymen gathered remotely in front of computers, tablets and phones on Friday 5th June to take part in the Livery Company’s first Fellowship Friday event.

The brainchild of Providitor Margaret Boanas, the event was set up to seek to reproduce the camaraderie, sociability and spirit enjoyed by all at a traditional Butchers’ Hall Court Lunch.

Although Roast Beef wasn’t on the menu, many of the trappings of a traditional Court Lunch were evident with meat, generously donated by Liveryman Alan Bird of Two Counties Food, being supplied to Voices of Hope, a charity designated as a central food distribution point for Kingston Borough, providing support for the most vulnerable in the community.

Breakout sessions welcomed Liverymen and provided a bit of a “warm up” to the main event which was a very amusing talk given by Guest Speaker Michael Fenton Stevens of Spitting Image, Mr Bean, Outnumbered and Only Fools and Horses fame.

Michael kept the virtual audience spellbound with tales of the world of comedy, theatre and TV, even relating his experience of achieving a number 1 hit with The Chicken Song in 1986.

Despite the absence of a Stirrup Cup, the traditional 200 Club Draw saw wins for Past Master Graham Baker with Past Master Patricia Dart taking the runners up prize.

The Champagne Draw, donated by Liveryman Bill Holmes, was won by Julien Pursglove.

The feedback received so far has been very encouraging… with many Liverymen using the occasion to start the weekend in the traditional manner!
