Congratulations to all those who took part in the Master’s Cup. The day was full of friendly rivalry, with some very close racing at the front of the fleet. The Absalom and Adlington boats were showing us their backsides in all three races.
A big thank you to the committee boat, manned and provided by Liveryman Jim Sydenham and Ashley Byrne.

A Novice Takes to the Water
“I was invited to join one of six yachts in The Master’s Cup regatta. As I had never sailed before, but was inspired by talking to Bill Jermey, I decided to take the plunge!
The latest sailing trip organised by the Worshipful Company of Butchers took place on Monday 8th September, based from Portsmouth, and involved six boats. The racing on the Solent is an annual event and I was lucky enough to be invited on this one.
We gathered at 9.00am at the Sunsail office, met our skipper Neil and our crew of six, including myself, before boarding the sailboat. After a safety brief and putting on our life jackets, we set off across the Solent, passing the spectacular Spinnaker Tower and sailing past the Isle of Wight, with a great view of Osborne House.
We managed to get in three races before heading back to port, which were all exciting and thrilling at the same time. Weather was kind to us and, as a novice crew member, I absolutely loved it. I learnt a great deal in a short time, but undoubtedly still have a lot more to learn, so I will be signing up for sailing lessons. Next time I plan to no longer be the novice! We ended the day with a dinner and presentation to the deserved winners.
