Opening a New Chapter: The New Master’s First Court Lunch

Published on: 8 October 2026

We welcomed members and guests to Butchers’ Hall on Friday 2 October for the first Court Lunch of the new Livery year, hosted by the new Master.

Among the special guests were Mr William Marle, Master Baker accompanied by his Clerk, Ms Camilla Szymanowska and Mr Ian Leggett, Master Stationer & Newspaper Makers.

The lunch featured Emily MacKenzie, Chief Operating Officer of St Paul’s Cathedral, as guest speaker. Emily has held this position since January 2023, with overall responsibility for the Cathedral’s day-to-day operations and the delivery of its strategic vision. Prior to this, she spent eight years as Chief Operating Officer at Gloucester Cathedral. Over her 30-year career, Emily has held senior roles across the charity sector in operations, communications and fundraising, as well as serving as a trustee for several organisations.

The Company was also delighted to welcome Rt Hon George Eustice as a new Liveryman and Jonathan Hamer as a new Freeman. We extend our warmest congratulations and welcome both to the Company.

The main course featured Teys Black Australian 60-day aged grain-fed boneless sirloin steak, generously provided by our Corporate Partner, Hilton Food Solutions.

The event also included the 200 Club draw, with congratulations to the winners: Geoff Buchanan, who took first prize; Andrew Taylor, who won second prize; and Adam Joslin, who received third prize.

The Champagne raffle, kindly sponsored by Windsor Food Machinery, was won by Matt Preece.

The Company extends its sincere thanks to Emily MacKenzie and all our special guests for joining us, to Hilton Food Solutions and Windsor Food Machinery for their generous support, and to everyone who attended and helped make the first Court Lunch of the new Livery year a success.
