Election of the Sheriffs & Lunch 2025

Published on: 16 May 2025

A Historic Occasion in the City Calendar

All Liverymen who were admitted on or before 31 May 2024 are warmly invited to attend the Election of Sheriffs for the City of London, taking place at Guildhall on Tuesday, 24 June 2025. This centuries-old ceremony is one of the most significant dates in the City’s civic calendar, reflecting the enduring traditions that underpin the Square Mile’s governance.

Please note you won't be admitted without an Election Pass. Book here

Why the Sheriff Election Matters

The office of Sheriff is the oldest civic role in the City of London, predating even the Lord Mayor. The annual Election of Sheriffs is a unique privilege granted to Liverymen—those who help shape the City’s past, present and future.

As a qualifying Liveryman (admitted on or before 31 May 2024), you are eligible to vote in this important civic process and help elect two individuals who will serve the City with distinction for the coming year.

Then join us for lunch

Following the Election, we invite you to join the Master with fellow Liverymen and other Livery companies for a Lunch at Butchers' Hall, which includes a glass of prosecco on arrival, a 2-course meal, two glasses of house wine per person and tea/coffee with petit fours.

You may book for both the Election and Lunch, or for an Election Pass only. Friends, colleagues and family members are most welcome to join the lunch but will not be able to attend the elections unless they are qualifying Liverymen themselves. The lunch is available to all to book, irrespective of whether you attend the Election in the morning. Guests can have a different type of ticket to the member.
