A good crowd turned up in freezing conditions to watch the Polo Challenge Match between Butcher’s Pet Care and Sealed Air Cryovac. The match, held at Onley Grounds Equestrian Complex, was won 8-4 by Butcher’s Pet Care, despite a late rally by Sealed Air Cryovac, was a curtain raiser for the Kilimanjaro Climb Ball.

The event, organised by Assistant David Baker, was held to raise funds for the Cure Parkinson’s Trust and the Master’s Million Fund. David and a team of WCB Liverymen are seeking to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in March in order to raise funds for these two worthy causes. The Cure Parkinson’s Trust is the Master of the Worshipful Company of Butchers,Graham Baker’s Charity for the year while the Master’s Million is all about raising funds to refurbish those parts of Butchers’ Hall used by Liverymen.

Around 180 Liverymen and guests gathered to enjoy the great atmosphere, fellowship and camaraderie. Undaunted by the freezing conditions, guests apparently wanted to continue the ice theme, experiencing and enjoying a Vodka Luge - an ice sculpture in the shape of Mount Kilimanjaro - seemingly the team of WCB climbers were getting themselves acclimatised!

Following a serving of canapes a four course dinner was enjoyed by all with food kindly donated by Bidfood and Pork Loins being supplied by Barrett and Page.

No sooner had dinner been served than the well organised raffle stacked with excellent prizes got under way. Continuing the sporting theme, prizes of shooting, polo, skiing, golfing and jousting experiences were won, while culinary aspects were well catered for by donations of Lamb as well as a prize of a night of Indian cuisine.

In dancing the night away to The Sessions Band, all agreed that the evening had been a great success.

Both charities join in thanking those donating prizes and all guests for making the evening such a success with a sum of over £12,000 being raised on the night.
