Run the River for Teach First 2019

Liveryman Gerald Shortland led a team of five other Liverymen and friends in the annual Teach First “Run the River” event.

With the starting and finishing lines close to Tower Bridge, runners and walkers do just that as the course hugs the river taking in such iconic sights as Tower Bridge, the Tower of London, London Bridge, Big Ben and St Paul's Cathedral.

Teams from the Butchers’ Livery have participated in this prestigious event for a number of years supporting Teach First, one of its supported charities, as it seeks to provide a fair education for the most disadvantaged people.

Teach First was established in 2002 and since then has been working to end educational inequality through recruiting and placing great teachers in the schools which need them most.

Gerald summed up this year's Run the River event, saying: “The team effort was fantastic and I’m delighted to say that we’re well on the way to having a team for next year’s run already. Thanks to all.”
